UAE Flag Day 2026: Desk Flags, Flag Pins and Office Flag Etiquette

UAE Flag Day falls on Tuesday 3 November 2026. It marks the anniversary of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's accession as President of the UAE in 2004, and has been celebrated since 2013. In 2025, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum called on ministries, institutions and residents to raise the flag together at 11am.

What the colours of the UAE flag mean

The federal UAE Flag and Official Portraits Guidelines give each colour a meaning:

• Red: the sacrifices made by the previous generation of Emiratis to protect the motherland, its accomplishments and its values
• Green: growth, prosperity and flourishing vibrancy
• White: good deeds, generosity and bountifulness that distinguish Emiratis
• Black: strength, resilience and courage

The federal guidelines apply to companies as well as government entities. Before Flag Day, check your flags and plans against these rules:

• Inspect before raising. Check the flag every time before raising it, and always replace one that is worn, torn or discoloured.
• Official colours and proportions. The flag is twice as wide as it is tall. The red band runs along the pole and takes a quarter of the width; green, white and black run from top to bottom.
• Red at the top when hung vertically. From a window or balcony, hang the flag at an angle, or vertically with the red band at the top.
• Nothing added to the flag. No logos, symbols, designs or images — and no use as a trademark or for advertising.
• No flag-printed disposables. Don't print the flag on disposable items such as boxes or napkins.
• Retire worn flags with respect. Lower the flag slowly, fold it and keep it in a suitable place. Damaged flags may be recycled by taking them apart so they no longer resemble the flag — never burn them.

• Check your flags now. Replace any flag that is worn, torn or faded before 3 November.
• Count desks and people. One desk flag per reception desk and meeting room, one pin or badge per person.
• Order by 22 October. Delivery takes 5–7 working days after approval.
• Plan the moment. Gather the team before the flag-raising — in 2025 it was at 11am.
• Hang it right. A vertical flag hangs with the red band at the top.
• Keep your logo off the flag. Brand the gifts around it instead.
